Horse riding holidays in Tunisia offer the chance to embark on a journey through time and space. Riding Arabian-Barb horses, a common breed in the country, you will be captivated by Tunisia’s rich history and diverse landscapes. From the peaceful life of the palm groves – where the best dates in the world are grown – and the great livestock market of Douz; to the beauty of the ksour (desert castles), the Saharan sand seas and the mountain oases, Tunisia has lots of surprises in store.

Choosing the right riding holiday

Tunisia is an intriguing country and ideal destination for a winter, spring or autumn equestrian getaway. You can choose from two trails. Both involve sleeping in tents for a truly nomadic and desert experience, and both are for intermediate or advanced riders, with opportunities to canter.

MOUNTAIN OASES RIDE: This horseback riding tour in Tunisia takes you through the different landscapes of the country's south. From exhilarating canters across the vastness of the "chotts", to the first dunes of the Grand Erg Oriental, you will reach the palm groves, true havens of peace. Riding Arabian-Barb horses, you will explore the mountain oases at the edge of the Algerian border. This ride offers a nomadic journey for desert lovers and adventurous equestrians.

THE KSOUR TRAIL: An equestrian trek between the desert and the southern djebels. In the rugged mountains of Jebel Dahar, Barb-Arabian horses lead you along the trail of the ksour, which resemble fortresses and are the last strongholds of Berber culture. On this ride, you will reach the sands and oases of the Grand Erg Oriental, the largest sand sea of the Sahara.
