How can you make a positive impact while travelling?
Partner selection & support for local communities
Many of our partners already actively contribute to the development of local communities.
- We encourage them to prioritise homestays and meals made from local or organic produce, ensuring that our accommodations respect the environment, and our food choices support local agriculture.
- Of course, we also place special emphasis on animal welfare.
Our relationships with guides are long-standing, with some having worked with us or our sister company Cheval d’Aventure in France for over 15 years. We maintain full transparency about our trips, showcasing the strong connections we have with our guides and highlighting the social impact of each journey.
Some impactful "Equus Journeys"
- Botswana Okavango riding safari: Participating in our mobile safari “Across the Okavango” supports a tourism school by funding scholarships for students, helping them build careers in a growing sector.
- Ant's riding safaris in the Waterberg, South Africa: Part of your stay at Ant’s Lodges in South Africa contributes to rhino conservation efforts in the reserve.
- New Mexico Ranch, USA: All of the horses are rescues, reflecting our dedication to animal welfare.
- Mountain trails in Albania: Our team is heavily involved with local architectural and cultural projects, helping restore monuments of cultural importance seen along the ride. They are also helping to keep the local horse breed alive with a special breeding programme.
Tips for responsible and environmentally friendly travel
- Packing suggestions: Our equipment lists include practical tips to minimize waste, encourage light travel, and suggest taking non-recyclable waste back home.
- Eco-friendly products: We recommend using organic and non-toxic products to protect both your skin and the environment.
Fostering Cultural and Economic Respect
We encourage riders to:
- Approach their journey with an open mind and respect for local populations.
- Support local economies by purchasing locally made souvenirs, contributing directly to the financial well-being of the communities they visit.
At Equus, every step of your journey is designed to benefit not just the rider but also the environment, local communities, and the animals we work with.
